Staying Hydrated In The Summer Is Essential For Optimal Health

As soon as the sun begins to burn down upon us it’s time to think about staying hydrated in our summer activities.

Don’t Forget To Stay Hydrated

The body is made up of 60% water, so to stay healthy you must be consuming enough water per day. Everyone is used to drinking a certain amount of water, but a few forget they need to increase their intake as soon as they start spending more time outdoors. A large amount of water in your body is lost due to breathing and perspiration, which will only be exaggerated when the temperature rises. You’ll automatically start sweating and breathe more heavily when you exert yourself in the heat, so it’s imperative you up your fluid intake.

It’s More Important If You’re Active

We all have different activity levels, and you need to replenish your water supplies based on how active you are on a daily basis. The Mayo Clinic suggests everyone should drink at least 8 cups of fluid as a baseline figure, but when the weather starts to get hot you should increase this by a cup or two minimum. You then need to think about your own activity levels, for example, if you work outdoors with the sun beating down on you it’s obvious you’ll need to drink more. The same thing applies to athletes, especially if they’re training outdoors, but even if they’re training indoors they’ll still need to drink more because of their increased metabolism.

Negative Side-Effects of Not Drinking Enough Water

If you don’t drink enough water when it’s hot outside you will suffer from side-effects, and some of them can have a serious impact on your life. A few of them are the same as symptoms you might suffer from straight after chiropractic treatment. Here is a quick list of heat exhaustion symptoms you should look out for:

– Nausea
– Dizziness
– Weakness
– Fatigue
– Muscle cramps
– Increase in body temperature

If you’re drinking enough fluids you shouldn’t suffer from any major problems, but if you start noticing a few of these symptoms you should increase your fluid intake.

Flush Out Toxins

Staying hydrated on a regular basis should be a part of everyone’s general wellness routine, because it will help to flush out all the harmful toxins that build up in your body. The only real difference between winter and summer should be your fluid intake. If you flush the toxins out of your body you’ll feel better. As well as protecting you from future illnesses, your body will be able to recover at a much quicker pace if you stay adequately hydrated. Carry a water bottle around with you and make hydration a daily ritual.
